Biography

John Michael “Ozzy” Osbourne (born 3 December 1948 in Marston Green, Warwickshire, England – died 22 July 2025) rose from humble beginnings to become one of the most iconic and irreverent figures in rock history. As the lead vocalist of Black Sabbath, formed in 1968, he helped pioneer heavy metal with landmark albums like Paranoid and Master of Reality. Nicknamed the “Prince of Darkness,” Ozzy’s eerie vocals and theatrical stage presence set the tone for generations of metal musicians The Sun.

After his departure from Black Sabbath in 1979 due to substance misuse, he launched a massively successful solo career beginning with Blizzard of Ozz (1980). Hits like “Crazy Train” and “No More Tears” cemented his status as a rock legend. He sold over 100 million albums and was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame twice—once with Sabbath in 2006 and again as a solo artist in 2024.

Ozzy's life also attracted mass media attention through his MTV reality show The Osbournes (2002–2005), showcasing his colorful family life with wife Sharon and their children.

In his later years, Ozzy battled serious health issues, including Parkinson’s disease (diagnosed publicly in 2020), spinal injuries, and emphysema. He performed his final concert, a reunion with Black Sabbath at Villa Park, Birmingham on 5 July 2025, delivering a poignant farewell despite his physical frailty.

On the morning of 22 July 2025, Ozzy passed away peacefully at 76, surrounded by his wife Sharon and their children. His family released a statement:

“With more sadness than mere words can convey… our beloved Ozzy Osbourne has passed away this morning… he was with his family and surrounded by love. We ask everyone to respect our family privacy at this time.”

He is survived by his wife Sharon, six children (Jack, Kelly, Aimee, Louis, Jessica, and Elliot), and several grandchildren.

His death marks the end of an era, but Ozzy’s influence on rock, metal, and popular culture will remain immortal.
