Biography

He was an American professional ice hockey winger whose passion for the game and exceptional talent made him a standout in the National Hockey League (NHL). Known to fans as "Johnny Hockey," Gaudreau's illustrious career spanned 11 seasons, during which he became one of the league's most dynamic and respected players. He honed his skills at Boston College, where he earned the prestigious Hobey Baker Award in 2014 as the best player in NCAA Division I hockey. Drafted by the Calgary Flames in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft, Gaudreau quickly made his mark, earning a spot in the 2015 NHL All-Star Game and a place on the 2014 NHL All-Rookie team. His sportsmanship and skill were further recognized when he was awarded the Lady Byng Memorial Trophy for the 2016–17 season.

In 2022, Gaudreau continued his career with the Columbus Blue Jackets, where his leadership and on-ice brilliance inspired teammates and fans alike. Off the ice, John was a devoted brother, son, and friend, known for his humility and genuine love for life. His untimely passing in a tragic cycling accident, alongside his brother Matthew, on August 29, 2024, has left an indelible void in the hearts of those who knew him.
