Born and raised in Hyden, Kentucky, Bobby, along with his brother Sonny Osborne, contributed significantly to the bluegrass genre. They are best known for their iconic hits like "Ruby, Are You Mad at Your Man?" and "Rocky Top," which have become staple songs in country and bluegrass music.

The Osborne Brothers were inducted into the International Bluegrass Music Association's Hall of Honor in 1994 and received a National Heritage Fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts. After the Osborne Brothers disbanded in the mid-2000s, Bobby formed his own band, the Rocky Top X-Press.
